Le Mas des Poiriers
Provence wedding cake

Bespoke wedding cakes for the gardens and pear orchards of Le Mas des Poiriers, minutes from Avignon. Made in Paris, delivered and installed in person by Ange Gimenez.

Le Mas des Poiriers
an island in the Rhône.

I am Ange Gimenez, a Paris-based wedding cake designer, and I work in sugar paste. Available for weddings and private celebrations at Le Mas des Poiriers, the 18th-century farmhouse set among working pear orchards on an island in the Rhône, minutes from Avignon. For couples marrying there, I design a sculptural cake made for a garden evening in Provence.

Le Mas des Poiriers sits on sixty-five acres of orchards and sunflower fields, on an island in the river facing the ramparts of Avignon. The eighteenth-century mas was restored by Alexandre Lafourcade, and its gardens were drawn by Dominique Lafourcade, the landscape designer whose clipped boxwood, plane-tree allées and long pools define the modern Provençal garden. Up to two hundred and fifty guests can gather in those gardens. The main house and its cottage sleep the wedding party in nine bedrooms, and the Avignon TGV station is fifteen minutes away.

The estate opens to a small number of weddings each year, almost always as a full buy-out over several days, and works with a short list of established planners. The couples who marry here are mostly American, and they come for exactly what the garden gives: lavender and olive, the scent of ripening pears, dinner under the plane trees, dancing beside the pool.

A Provence garden in July is not a kind place for a cake. Afternoons pass thirty degrees and the light is direct until late. Buttercream cannot hold that. Sugar paste does, which is why it is the only medium I work in. I design for the Poiriers palette: ivory and bone, the soft green of pear leaves, blush and apricot, with sugar flowers taken from the garden itself. Pear blossom in spring. Garden roses, jasmine and lavender in summer. Fig leaves and vine in September.

On the day, I drive from Paris with the cake, install it myself in the garden or the dining room, adjust the presentation to the table and the evening light, and leave only when it is right. The Poiriers team and your planner have one fewer thing to manage.

Why sugar paste
is the only choice

Buttercream photographs well. It does not survive a July evening in a Provence garden, under plane trees, with the cake table set at six and dinner served at nine. Sugar paste does. Here is the difference, honestly stated.

01

Holds through a Provence garden evening

June, July and August weddings at Le Mas des Poiriers pass thirty degrees in the afternoon, with the cake on show through cocktails in the garden and dinner under the trees. Sugar paste is structurally stable in heat that makes buttercream slide, pit and lose its shape within hours. Your cake looks identical in the last photograph of the night as it did when the first guest arrived.

02

Each petal sculpted individually

Every flower on my cakes is built petal by petal from sugar paste. Not piped, not printed, not pre-made. A single peony may take thirty minutes to an hour. A full cake may carry sixty, eighty, or a hundred and fifty individual flowers. The result is the kind of detail that holds up to a macro lens and to the memory of your guests years later.

03

Architectural height, six to eight tiers

Sugar paste gives me the structural integrity for tall, multi-tiered cakes. My signature work, including the eight-tier Fally with more than a hundred and fifty wafer paper flowers made entirely by hand, is only possible because of the medium. Buttercream at that height and scale would not survive transport, let alone a full evening.

04

Personally delivered and placed

I do not hand the cake off to a courier. I transport every commission myself to the island and set it in place, in the garden or the dining room, adjusting the final presentation until it is exactly right. For a garden wedding in Provence, where the table, the light and the shade of the trees all matter, this direct involvement is not optional. It is the only way to guarantee the result.

Provence, venue by venue

From the pear orchards of Le Mas des Poiriers to the formal gardens of Château de Tourreau and the bastides of the Luberon. Every Provençal venue has its own light, its own heat, its own evening. I design for what each one asks.

How a wedding cake
comes to life

1

Discovery Call

I begin with a conversation. Your venue. Your aesthetic. The feeling you want the cake to carry. I listen before I speak. No questionnaire. A real exchange about your day.

2

Design Consultation

Based on your venue, season, and style references, I propose a design direction. Tier structure. Flower selection. Colour palette. The commission is confirmed at this stage, with timeline and logistics.

3

Sculpting Phase

Two to four weeks before your wedding, my hands are entirely yours. I sculpt every sugar flower by hand. Every petal is dried and assembled one at a time. The cake structure is built and dressed in the final days before delivery.

4

Delivery & Setup

I deliver to your venue myself. I transport the cake with the care it deserves and place it on the table by hand. I adjust the presentation on-site and leave only when it is exactly right. Your coordinator has one fewer thing to manage.

We ordered macarons for the day before our wedding and our wedding cake from Ange. The macarons were truly exceptional, better than those of some well-known pastry chefs. The wedding cake was elegant, exactly as we had envisioned, and delicious: two flavours, chocolate hazelnut and coconut mango, both a real success. Ange delivers the cake herself, works with complete discretion, professionalism and elegance. I recommend her wholeheartedly.

you have to ask.

I take a limited number of commissions each year, and the estate itself hosts only a handful of weddings a season. Write to me as soon as your dates and your planner are confirmed, ideally twelve months ahead. Six months is workable. If your wedding is sooner, reach out anyway and I will tell you honestly what is possible.
Yes. I drive from Paris with the cake and install it myself, in the garden, under the plane trees or in the dining room, wherever your planner has set the table. Access to the island is simple by road from Avignon. Timing is coordinated with the estate team so the cake is placed late, in the shade, and photographed at its best.
A Provence garden in summer is hot, bright and long. Buttercream begins to soften and lose its shape in that heat. Sugar paste holds its architecture, its petals and its edges through cocktails, dinner and dancing. It is also the only medium that allows the tall, multi-tiered structures I build. For an outdoor wedding at Le Mas des Poiriers, it is not a preference. It is the only responsible choice.
Every commission is bespoke and quoted on its own terms. The figure follows the number of tiers, the level of sugar sculpture, the guest count and the distance to your venue. I do not publish a price list. I share a detailed proposal after a first conversation, with no obligation to proceed. Travel and installation are quoted with the cake, so the figure you receive is final. How a commission unfolds, from first conversation to installation, is described on my services page.
That is exactly how I prefer to work. Pear blossom in spring, garden roses, jasmine and lavender in summer, fig and vine leaves in September. The clipped boxwood and the long lines of the garden suggest a clean, architectural silhouette. The cake should look as though it belongs to that garden, on that evening, for the two of you, not like a design placed in an extraordinary setting.
Yes. I am based in Paris, and I deliver every commission myself across France and, on commission, abroad: Kenya among them. For Le Mas des Poiriers, that means driving down with the cake and installing it myself, in the garden or the dining room. Travel and installation are quoted with the cake, so the figure you receive is final.
