Wedding Cakes
on the French Riviera
The Mediterranean sun asks for more than beauty. It demands resilience. Sugar paste is the only medium that stands, flawlessly, through hours of outdoor celebration in the Riviera heat. Sculpted in Paris. Delivered to your venue, personally.
Where the sun never
forgives shortcuts.
I am Ange Gimenez, a Paris-based wedding cake designer specialising in hand-sculpted sugar paste, travelling to the Côte d'Azur for bespoke commissions on the Mediterranean coast.
A Riviera wedding is one of the most beautiful settings in the world. It is also one of the most demanding. Outdoor terraces over the Mediterranean. August heat past 35°C. Receptions that stretch through golden afternoon into evening. Sugar paste is the medium I work in for exactly these conditions: it holds its architecture in high heat and humidity without depending on refrigeration.
I build each cake in Paris over two to four weeks, as I do for all my wedding cakes in France. Then I travel to the Riviera myself, to Nice, Cannes, Antibes, Cap Ferrat, Èze, and place the cake on-site, adjusting every detail before your guests arrive. Nothing is left to chance. Nothing is left to a courier.
The result is a sculpture that looks exactly as it did the day it was finished. Through the ceremony. Through cocktail hour. Through every photograph. Until the very last slice.
Why sugar paste
for the Riviera
Survives Mediterranean Heat
Sugar paste is structurally stable at temperatures that would cause buttercream or ganache to slump and collapse. At 35°C under a July Riviera sun, your cake remains pristine. Architecturally intact, visually perfect.
Holds Through Every Hour
Riviera receptions run long, from late afternoon cocktails on the terrace to dinner well into the night. Sugar paste holds through all of it, without refrigeration, without compromise. It was made for moments that last.
Sculpted to Your Venue
Every element, from the silhouette of each tier to the botanicals on each petal, is designed in conversation with your venue. Olive branches for a hillside estate. Sea anemones for a coastal terrace. Bougainvillea for a Provençal courtyard.
Placed Personally
I do not ship cakes. I travel. I arrive at your Riviera venue, assemble each tier with the precision of a final finishing, and I leave only when every detail meets my standard. Your cake is placed by the hands that made it.

A cake for every setting
Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild
A rose-pink villa between two bays, its formal gardens descending toward the sea. Pale, architectural, timeless. I am available for weddings at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.
Château de la Chèvre d'Or
Four hundred metres above the Mediterranean in medieval Èze. A sugar sculpture here becomes part of the landscape. I am available for weddings at Château de la Chèvre d'Or.
Domaine de la Croix
Thirty hectares of vineyard running to the sea near Saint-Tropez. A cake built to hold until dark. I am available for weddings at Domaine de la Croix.
Castel Bay
A Belle Époque estate facing the Baie de l'Almanarre. I have worked at Castel Bay and know its late-afternoon light.
Discover →From first conversation
to the Riviera
I begin with a conversation about your vision: your venue, your aesthetic, your flowers, your story. Nothing is generic. Everything starts with you.
I develop the concept: silhouette, tiers, botanicals, palette. Every element is considered in relation to the Riviera light, your venue, and the season of your wedding.
Two to four weeks of work by hand in Paris. Each sugar flower is hand-built petal by petal. Each tier is assembled, finished, and inspected with jeweller's precision.
I travel to your venue personally. The cake is transported in custom packaging designed for long-distance journeys, ensuring nothing shifts in transit.
On your wedding day, I assemble and place the cake on-site. I leave only when every detail is perfect, so that the first time you see it, it is exactly the piece you imagined.
Everything you want
to know
-
Do you travel to the French Riviera?Yes. I travel from Paris to the French Riviera for every commission on the Côte d'Azur. I handle transport personally and place the cake on-site at your venue, ensuring it arrives in flawless condition regardless of the distance. There are no intermediaries and no couriers. From my hands to the reception table, your cake never leaves my care.
-
Is sugar paste suitable for hot Mediterranean weddings?Yes, and it is the only medium that is. Unlike buttercream, ganache, or fresh cream, sugar paste does not melt, slump, or lose structure when temperatures rise above 30°C. This makes it the only reliable choice for outdoor summer weddings on the French Riviera, where afternoon heat is a constant. I use sugar paste exclusively, and this is precisely why.
-
What venues on the Riviera have you worked with?I am available for weddings at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild on Cap Ferrat, Château de la Chèvre d'Or in Èze and Domaine de la Croix in Croix-Valmer, and I have worked at Castel Bay in Hyères. Every Riviera commission is sculpted in Paris and installed by me on the day. If you have another venue in mind along the Côte d'Azur, from the small estates of the arrière-pays to the grand villas above the sea, write to me and I will confirm availability.
-
How far in advance should I book for a summer Riviera wedding?I accept a very limited number of commissions each year so each piece receives my full attention. For summer dates on the French Riviera, particularly July and August, which are among the most sought-after, write to me six to twelve months before the date. If your date is sooner, it is always worth inquiring. Cancellations do occasionally arise.
-
What is the cost of a wedding cake on the French Riviera?Every commission is bespoke and quoted on its own terms. The figure follows the number of tiers, the level of sugar sculpture, the guest count and the distance to your venue. I do not publish a price list. I share a detailed proposal after a first conversation, with no obligation to proceed. Travel and installation are quoted with the cake, so the figure you receive is final. How a commission unfolds, from first conversation to installation, is described on my services page.
-
Can you create a cake inspired by Mediterranean nature: lavender, olive branches, sea colours?Mediterranean botanicals are among my favourite references. Lavender sprays, olive branches with hand-formed leaves, sea anemones, bougainvillea, wild rosemary, and the muted blues and terracottas of the Provençal landscape: every detail can be hand-sculpted in sugar paste to reflect the world your wedding inhabits. This is what sets a bespoke commission apart from anything ready-made.
Tell me about
your day.
I take around thirty commissions a year, so each piece has my full attention. If you are planning a wedding on the French Riviera, from Saint-Tropez to Monaco, I would love to hear from you.
